Why I Gave Up Fake Eyelashes — And Honestly, I Don't Miss Them

Let's be honest: fake eyelashes look wonderful. They bring drama, dimension, and immediate glitter to any outfit. For a while, I became fascinated. I couldn't picture going out without a few wispy lashes fluttering above my eyelids. But sometime along the way, it stopped being enjoyable. It started seeming like a chore. So I gave them up, and here's why you should think about it too.

First and foremost, they are not always as innocent as they appear. Constantly glueing strips along your lash line can cause irritation, allergic reactions, and even infections if hygiene is not followed — which, let's be honest, it often is. I observed redness and itching more than once, but I dismissed it. "Beauty is pain," correct? But it doesn't have to be.

Then there's the impact on your natural lashes. My natural lashes gradually grew thinner and more delicate. I'd peel off the falsies, cringing at how little lashes remained. It's easy to forget that adhesive and frequent pulling can be damaging. When I stopped using them, I realised how much I had neglected my natural lashes.

There is also the time factor. Applying fake lashes, especially attempting to get them exactly perfect, may take up a crazy amount of time in your routine. Consider the drying time for glue, changes, and blending... A "quick touch-up" evolves into a 30-minute procedure. Honestly, the additional time in the morning? I do not miss it.

Another item that astonished me? How liberating it felt to walk out with only my natural lashes. I began using a decent lash serum, curled my lashes on a daily basis, and purchased a high-quality mascara. Over a few weeks, my lashes appeared thicker and healthier. More significantly, I felt like myself again—not like I was hiding behind anything.

Of course, wearing falsies on occasion is very acceptable. If you adore them and they make you feel confident, that is OK. However, if you're feeling burned out, dependant on them, or simply not yourself, it may be time to take a break. Allow your innate beauty to breathe.

Because here's the truth: real lashes, short lashes, and barely-there lashes are all great. You don't need phoney ones to look good or feel secure. You are enough just the way you are.
