DIY Lash Lift at Home: Yes, You Can Do It (Safely!)

Let's be honest—nothing beats waking up with flawlessly raised lashes. It's like coffee for your eyes. However, regular salon visits may be costly and time demanding. What is the good news? You can do your own lash lift at home—with a little patience, the correct equipment, and a steady hand.

Before we get started, a brief reminder: this is not something to rush. You're working near to your eyes, so take your time, pay attention to the directions, and don't push anything that seems odd. Your safety comes first.

What You’ll Need

Begin with a lash lift kit, which are easy to acquire online. Look for one with positive reviews and includes:
  • Lifting solution
  • Setting solution
  • Lash glue
  • Silicone shields (various sizes)
  • Cleanser
  • Lash brush or applicator tools

You’ll also need:

  • A mirror (ideally magnified)
  • Cotton swabs or pads
  • A clean spoolie
  • Patience (seriously, give yourself at least 45 minutes)

Step-by-Step: Your At-Home Lash Lift

1. Start with Clean Lashes

Make sure your lashes are clean, with no mascara, oils, or skincare residue. A mild oil-free cleanser or micellar water is effective.

2. Choose Your Shield Size

Lash shields (those small silicone pads) come in a variety of sizes. The curl becomes more extreme as the shield size decreases. If you want a natural lift, medium is typically a good choice.

3. Apply the Shield

Using the adhesive, attach the shield to your eyelid as near to the lash line as feasible. This portion may feel weird, but make sure it's secure before continuing on.

4. Glue Your Lashes to the Shield

Apply the lash glue to your lashes and gently brush them up onto the shield. A clean spoolie or Y-tool is useful here. Be patient—your lashes should be spread out and flat, not crisscrossed.

5. Apply the Lifting Solution

Apply the lifting solution on your lashes from mid-length to base, avoiding the tips. Leave it on for the duration specified in your kit—usually 8 to 12 minutes, depending on your lash thickness.

6. Remove and Repeat with Setting Solution

Remove the lifting solution with a dry cotton swab, then apply the setting solution in the same manner. This technique helps to "lock in" the curl. Again, follow the time on your gear, which is generally the same as the lifting step.

7. Clean It All Off

Once the time has passed, carefully remove the setting solution, peel the lashes from the shield, and then remove the shield itself. Remove any residue with the cleaner provided in your package.

Aftercare Matters

Over the next 24 hours:
  • Avoid getting your lashes moist.
  • Skip mascara and any eye makeup.
  • Never massage or sleep on your face.
What happens after that? Enjoy your raised lashes for 6-8 weeks! You may still use mascara, although many people find it unnecessary after a decent lift.

A Few Real-Talk Tips

First, run patch tests on the solutions. Your eyes are sensitive, and you do not want to experience a response halfway through.

Don't overdo it—too much time will scorch your lashes.

If this is your first time, watch a few lessons first and perhaps attempt one eye at a time.

DIY lash lifts may be both powerful and terrifying. However, with the correct equipment, patience, and reasonable expectations, it can be a complete beauty win. Remember: it's fine if it's not salon-perfect the first time. You'll improve with practice.

And, hey, saving money while waking up with curled lashes? That's a win-win.
